Agoda's Back End Engineering department builds scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs for core business logic, covering inventory, pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, and payments. The systems undergo dozens of releases daily, requiring state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques, and are designed to be self-healing under extreme loads.

Responsibilities

Be hands-on by writing and reviewing code, and providing expert-level coaching and guidance to engineers
Maintain a love of engineering and a passion for building things elegantly and at scale
Stay current with industry trends and have strong opinions about system architecture, engineering, and maintenance
Perform full stack engineering with solid experience across the technology stack: infrastructure, client side, backend, performance, and data
Develop people by inspiring them to achieve their potential
Attract and integrate A-players into the business

Requirements

Extremely proficient in at least 1 programming language (Java, Scala, C#)
Strong experience in systems architecture, especially complex, scalable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems
Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility
Proficient in lower-level engineering (Garbage collection, context switching, threading)
Adherence to DevOps culture (Agility, Leanness, Automation, CI/CD)
Good understanding of application security
Passionate about technology and the Internet
Must have worked in a successful agile development team
Must have run engineering teams with 5+ direct reports
Able to operate autonomously, making decisions and setting KPIs, with a strong sense of ownership
Practices data-driven decision making

Nice to have

Proficiency in more than one programming language
