We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a backend and data-oriented product engineering team. This role is responsible for building and developing a strong engineering team while driving the delivery of customer-facing and platform capabilities from product definition through design, implementation, deployment, and production ownership.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, fostering ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Partner with Product to define priorities, shape solutions, and execute the team’s product and technical roadmap
• Drive end-to-end delivery of product capabilities, from requirements and technical design through implementation, deployment, and production ownership
• Lead architecture and technical design for scalable, reliable backend and data-intensive systems
• Balance product delivery with technical quality, maintainability, reliability, and technical debt
• Drive strong engineering practices including code quality, testing, observability, CI/CD, and production readiness
• Manage prioritization, capacity, execution risks, and predictable delivery of strategic initiatives
• Collaborate with Backend, Data Engineering, Analytics, DevOps, and other product teams on cross-team initiatives
• Own recruitment, onboarding, performance management, feedback, and career development
• Ensure the team learns from production incidents and continuously improves system reliability

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 7+ years of software engineering experience
• 2+ years of direct engineering management experience
• Strong backend software engineering and system-design experience
• Experience designing and operating distributed, production-scale systems
• Hands-on experience with modern data technologies and frameworks such as Kubernetes, Kafka, Spark, Flink, Airflow, DBT, Snowflake, Cassandra/ScyllaDB, or similar technologies
• Strong programming background in Java, Scala, Python, or similar
• Experience with cloud environments and modern software delivery practices
• Experience with data-intensive systems, event-driven architectures, or data pipelines
• Strong understanding of reliability, observability, testing, and production operations
• Strong product mindset and demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Product Management
• Proven ability to lead complex initiatives and deliver customer or business outcomes

Nice to have

• Exposure to UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol) or similar interoperability standards for AI agents and payment ecosystems is a bonus
• Experience working in an eCommerce or digital commerce environment is a strong advantage
