Responsibilities

• Model and mathematically represent competing demands on Via
• Develop online algorithms for real-time decision-making, focusing on optimizing system utilization while maintaining a high quality of service for riders
• Design and implement highly efficient and scalable algorithmic solutions to power decision-making systems under large-scale, real-world operational demands
• Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to translate complex algorithmic insights into practical, impactful solutions

Requirements

• Advanced degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
• Significant research background and hands-on experience developing algorithms
• 3-4+ years of experience implementing algorithms in practical, production-scale systems
• Analytical thinker who can extract the essential elements of complex, real-world problems and convert them into actionable models
• Hands-on coder with experience in Python (or similar) and the ability to turn ideas into working solutions
• Naturally curious, fast-learning, and collaborative, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
